Glance Vision Technologies S.r.l. is a spin-off company of SISSA, established in June 2005. It is specialized in the development of advanced software, in Computer Vision and Image Processing for lead users. Its staff comprises experts in engineering and scientific disciplines at M.Sc. and Ph.D. level. GVT provides computer vision-based tools to public and private research institutions and laboratories. It provides analysis, design and implementation of customized hardware/software and is experienced in collaborations with academic research groups.

Role and expertise of GVT in the proposal

In the industrial sector GVT has designed several systems, in particular it has implemented an automatic shape analyser (FrameAnalyze) for a lead user robot-painting manufacturer. FrameAnalyzer allows automatic partitioning of any planar object, whatever the shape, into surface and contour primitives. This new product which makes CAD models, databases of shapes and training procedures useless, represents at the moment the newest advance in this sector and is an example of the expertise of GVT in the field of image processing and Machine Vision. In the bio-med sector GVT, thanks to the strict collaboration with SISSA, has designed and implemented several custom software applications, for image processing and data analysis of biomedical images. From 2008 GVT will expand its range of biological services, by hiring young researchers with the appropriate expertise. By doing so GVT aims to provide an integrated solution for: - the preparation of biological samples suitable for Atomic Force Microscopy imaging and immunofluorescence imaging, - automatic analysis of these images using a variety of tools already developed or new routines which will be developed for the specific needs of customers. This integrated solution covering sample preparation and image processing and analysis will be made available to the Nanoscale project.
